Marine Organizations

Here are some boating organizations that may be useful for enhancing your boating knowledge and safety. Most of these groups have local chapters that you can join.

Professional Yachtsman's Association - The Professional Yachtsmen's Association was formed in 1991 by a group of experienced yachtsmen with the intention of creating and maintaining a recognised professional status for seagoing members of the industry. The association is a non profit making organisation, registered in France under the law of 1901 and mustnot be confused with any type of Trade Union. Since our founding, we have steadily increased our membership which as at February 2001 is approaching 900 and now represents more than 35 nationalities working on sailing and motor yachts from15 to 100 metres world-wide. The PYA is recognised by the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), an executive agency of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, and maintains a continuous dialogue with the UK authorities and other influential bodies.

Seafarers Searchable Database of Yacht Clubs, Boating Associations and Clubs - This web site is dedicated to providing the Seafaring community with an excellent source of nautical information. We have provided a search engine to find and register Yacht Clubs and Boating Associations. Also providing a facility with links to other Nautical links. Yacht Club Registry is a world wide listing of yacht clubs with or without web sites. Associations is a list of sailing and boating clubs and associations. Scuttlebutt is a collection miscellaneous Nautical links.

Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors - SAMS an organization of Professional Marine Surveyors who have come together to promote the good image and general well being of their chosen profession. Accredited Marine Surveyor members are surveyors who have accumulated time in the profession, and have proven the technical skills necessary for designation as A.M.S. There is, through the Surveyor Associate program, the opportunity for less experienced members to participate in SAMS and hone their skills under the tutelage of Accredited Marine Surveyors in their local area. Affiliate members, who benefit from the association with the Society's members, are professionals, corporations, and organizations active in the marine field.

Tennessee Marina Association - The Northwest Marine Trade Association (NMTA) is the oldest and largest regional boating trade organization in the nation (see History), representing the interests of approximately 800 member companies. Each year it produces the Seattle Boat Show at the Stadium Exhibition Center and the Seattle Boat Show at Shilshole Bay Marina on behalf of its members. The nine member staff also works year round to promote boating and keep members informed of developments in the boating industry. The 13-Member Board of Trustees represents retail boat dealers, boat manufacturers, marinas, boatyards, and related marine industry businesses.

Tennessee Marina Association - The Tennessee Marina Association is a new and growing state association that works with sportsmen, boating and tourism organizations and with public, state and national organizations for the betterment of recreational boating. As a spokeman for the marina industry in Tennessee, TMA not only provides a strong voice for marina issues, but also provides and maintains an open line of communication between it's membership and federal and state organizations in an effort to work together on issues of mutual interest.

The Pennsylvania Boating Association of (southeastern pa) - We are the watchdog on behalf of the boating public for a quarter century. Champion of the interests of boat owners, boating enthusiasts and their club. The only statewide organization representing boaters from waterways in every corner of the state. Zealous monitor of the legislative process as it affects boaters interests. Diligent in keeping boating's viewpoints alive in state administrative councils.

The Superyacht Society - The Superyacht Society is the sole organization serving and representing the large yacht industry worldwide. Society members are individuals and companies who have been recognized for their leadership and dedication to raising the standards of design, construction, maintenance, repair and operation of large yachts. Founded in 1989, the Society is a not-for-profit organization and r elies wholly on membership dues, the support of corporate sponsors, revenues from special events, and other donations. An elected Board of Directors guides the Society's activities, which include the International Superyacht Design Awards program, The Superyacht Society Leadership Awards, the publication of a newsletter to serve as a vehicle for voicing industry issues and individual opinions, and educational programs.

The United States Power Squadrons - Organized in 1914, USPS is a non profit, educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects. Our members are boating families who contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating through education. We enjoy participating with our fellow members on the water and in the classroom. USPS has some 60,000 members organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in some US territories. USPS is the world's largest non-profit boating organization and has been honored by three US presidents for its civic contributions.

U.S. Coast Guard - The official U.S. Coast Guard Home Page and its worldwide missions and activities

Virgin Islands Charteryacht League - The Professional Association of Crewed Charter Yachts - The VICL flag is the symbol of membership in the only organization dedicated to maintaining the highest standards for the US Virgin Islands charter industry. Members of VICL, and their yachts, must meet certain standards of insurance, licensing, safety, experience, training, and general professionalism. Membership also shows a commitment to the long-term growth of the industry through our best resource – satisfied customers! VICL member yachts are a cut above the rest, in their dedication to chartering, to yachting, and to their customers. Look for the VICL banner flying above your yacht – it will show you the way to the best vacation in the islands you can imagine!
